Common Uses
Dytide H is a potassium-sparing diuretic. It works by making the kidneys eliminate sodium (salt) and water from the body while retaining potassium.
How to Take
Adults - 100 mg twice a day. Your doctor may gradually increase your dose. Children - Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor. To start, the usual dose is 2 to 4 mg per kilogram (0.9 to 1.82 mg per pound) of body weight a day or every other day. This is divided into smaller doses. Your doctor may increase your dose as needed.
Warning and Precautions
Dytide H may cause dizziness. This effect may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Dytide H with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
Check with your doctor before you use a salt substitute or a product that has potassium in it.
Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Dytide H before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include lightheadedness; nausea; vomiting; weakness.
Storage
Store Dytide H at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Dytide H out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects: diarrhea, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, weakness, severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); dry mouth; excessive thirst; slow or irregular heart rate; unusual muscle weakness; unusual tiredness; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes. Seek medical attention right away if any side effects occur.
