Common Uses
Arcoxia is a new COX-2 selective inhibitor. Current therapeutic indications are: treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, chronic low back pain, acute pain and gout. Note that approved indications differ by country.
How to Take
Take Arcoxia only when prescribed by your doctor.
For osteoarthritis, the recommended dose is 60 mg once a day.
For rheumatoid arthritis the recommended dose is 90 mg once a day.
For ankylosing spondylitis the recommended dose is 90 mg once a day.
For the relief of gout attacks the recommended dose is 120 mg once a day, which should only be used for the acute painful period.
Warning and Precautions
Arcoxia is not recommended for use during late pregnancy. If there is a need to consider using Arcoxia during your pregnancy, your doctor will discuss with you the benefits and risks of using it. If you are breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed it is not known if Arcoxia passes into breast milk. If you take Arcoxia while you have an infection, it may hide fever and may make you think, mistakenly, that you are better or that your infection is less serious than it might be.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Symptoms of a naproxen overdose may include nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, confusion, drowsiness, black or bloody stools, coughing up blood, shallow breathing, fainting, or coma.
Storage
Store Arcoxia at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Avoid temperatures above 104 degrees F (40 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Aleve out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects of Arcoxia may include: abdominal pain, bruising, constipation, diarrhea, difficult or labored breathing, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, hearing disturbances, heartburn, indigestion, inflammation of the mouth, itching, light-headedness, nausea, rapid, fluttery heartbeat, red or purple spots on the skin, ringing in the ears, skin eruptions, sweating, swelling due to fluid retention, thirst, vertigo, vision changes.
