Common Uses
Buspirone is an antianxiety agent. It is not known exactly how Buspirone works to relieve anxiety. It is believed that it may react with specific chemical receptors in the brain. It is used for the short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to Take
The recommended starting dose for adults is a total of 15 milligrams per day divided into smaller doses, usually 5 milligrams 3 times a day. Every 2 to 3 days, your doctor may increase the dosage 5 milligrams per day as needed. The daily dose should not exceed 60 milligrams.
The safety and effectiveness of Buspirone have not been established in children under 18 years of age.
Warning and Precautions
Buspirone may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or lightheadedness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Buspirone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.

Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
The symptoms of overdose may include: dizziness, drowsiness, nausea or vomiting, severe stomach upset, unusually small pupils.
Storage
Store Buspirone at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Avoid storing at temperatures above 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). Keep Buspirone out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Possible Side Effects
Contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include decreased pupil size; extreme dizziness or drowsiness; nausea; vomiting.
