Common Uses
Dolviran is a fast-acting opioid analgesic drug. It can be used for the relief of most types of moderate to severe pain, including postoperative pain and the pain of labor. Prolonged use may lead to dependence of the morphine type; withdrawal symptoms appear more rapidly than with morphine and are of shorter duration.
How to Take
Older adults, adults, and teenagers - 10 to 20 milligrams (mg) three or four times a day. Some people may take 30 mg two times a day. Your doctor may change the dose if needed. Your dose will not be more than 160 mg a day.
Children 2 years of age and older - 5 to 10 mg three or four times a day. Your doctor may change the dose if needed.
Children 6 months to 2 years of age - 5 to 10 mg of the syrup three or four times a day. Your doctor may change the dose if needed.
Children up to 6 months of age - Use is not recommended.
Warning and Precautions
Dolviran may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or lightheadedness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Dolviran with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
Do not drink alcohol or use medicines that may cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are using Dolviran; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness.
Dolviran may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever may increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects.
Do not become overheated in hot weather or while you are being active; heatstroke may occur.
This medicine may make your eyes more sensitive to sunlight. It may help to wear sunglasses.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately if you have taken too much of Dolviran. Symptoms may include blurred vision; convulsions (seizures); difficulty breathing; dilated pupils; disorientation; excessive thirst; flushed, hot, dry skin; hallucinations or unusual behavior; muscle weakness; nausea; rapid heartbeat and breathing; restlessness; unusual dizziness or drowsiness; unusually dry mouth; vomiting.
Storage
Store Dolviran at room temperature, below 86 degrees F (30 degrees C). Protect from freezing. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Dolviran out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects: blurred vision; constipation; decreased sweating; difficulty sleeping; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; lightheadedness; loss of taste; nausea; nervousness. Seek medical attention right away if any of these side effects occur.
