This medication description is not meant for treatment prescription without the intervention of a specialist.
Common Uses
Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic (lowers fever). It works by lowering a chemical in the brain that stimulates pain nerves and the heat-regulating center in the brain. Paracetamol is used for treating minor aches and pains due to headache, muscle aches, backache, arthritis, the common cold, flu, toothache, menstrual cramps, and immunizations, and for temporarily reducing fever.
How to Take
Adults and teenagers - 325 or 500 mg every three or four hours, 650 mg every four to six hours, or 1000 mg every six hours as needed. The total dose should not be more than 4000 mg (for example, eight 500-mg tablets) a day.
Warning and Precautions
Stop taking Paracetamol and check with your doctor if you develop new symptoms, if redness or swelling are present, if pain gets worse or lasts more than 10 days, or if fever gets worse or lasts more than 3 days. Children's and Junior Paracetamol should not be used for more than 5 days for pain, or 3 days for fever.
If you generally drink 3 or more alcoholic beverages per day, check with your doctor about using Paracetamol and other acetaminophen-containing products, and never take more than the recommended dosage. There is a possibility of damage to the liver when large amounts of alcohol and acetaminophen are combined.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
