Common Uses
Tavegil is an antihistamine. It is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, itching watery eyes, hives, rashes, itching, and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.
How to Take
Take Tavegil exactly as directed by your doctor. Adults and teenagers: 1.34 mg two times a day or 2.68 mg one to three times a day as needed. Children younger than 6 years of age: Use and dose must be determined by your doctor. Children 6 to 12 years of age: 0.67 to 1.34 mg two times a day. Never take more of this medication than is prescribed for you. The maximum amount of Tavegil that you should take in 1 day is 8.04 mg.
Warning and Precautions
Tavegil may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Tavegil. Using Tavegil alone, with certain other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
Avoid drinking alcohol or taking other medications that cause drowsiness (eg, sedatives, tranquilizers) while taking Tavegil. Tavegil will add to the effects of alcohol and other depressants.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have taken to much of Tavegil. The symptoms of overdose include: extreme sleepiness, confusion, weakness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, large pupils, dry mouth, flushing, fever, shaking, insomnia, hallucinations, and possibly seizures.
Storage
Store Tavegil at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), or according to directions on the package label. Store in the original package or container. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Tavegil out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Possible Side Effects
Stop taking Tavegil and seek emergency medical attention if you experience the allergic reactions such as difficulty breathing, closing of your throat, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face, or hives.
