Brand Names: Bella Hexal, Dianette, Diane-35
Generic Name: Co-cyprindiol
This medication description is not meant for treatment prescription without the intervention of a specialist.
Common Uses
Diane-35 is used for the treatment of androgen-dependent diseases in women, such as acne, especially pronounced forms and those which are accompanied by seborrhea or by inflammation or formation of nodes (acne papulopustulosa, acne nodulocystica), androgenetic alopecia and mild forms of hirsutism. Diane-35 is also indicated for oral contraception in women with androgen-dependent diseases and for the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome. The aim of treatment with Diane-35 is to block the peripheral action of male hormones commonly present in the female body.
How to Take
For the treatment of hypersexuality, severe hirsutism, or for the treatment of male-to-female transsexuals, 25mg twice daily is usually sufficient, although up to 100mg/day is permitted. As side effects are dose-dependent, treatment with the lowest effective dose is advisable.
Use during pregnancy is contraindicated, and for women of childbearing age, it should be administered with a combined oral contraceptive. To ensure that it does not interfere with regular withdrawal bleeding, additional Diane-35 should be taken only on days 1-10 of a 28-day package of birth control pills.
Warning and Precautions
If you are relying on this medicine for contraception it is important that you carefully follow the instructions for taking it provided in the pack. You should take your pill at the same time every day. If you are more than 12 hours late in taking a pill you will not be protected against pregnancy. Take the missed pill as soon as you remember and use an additional non-hormonal method of contraception (eg condoms) for the next seven days, while continuing to take your pills as normal. If the pill you missed was in the last seven days of a pack, you should start a new pack immediately without having a seven day break. Read the instructions in your pack carefully regarding missed pills.
Vomiting and severe diarrhea may interfere with the absorption of this medicine from the gut and decrease its effectiveness as a contraceptive. You should use an additional method of contraception (eg condoms) during a stomach upset and for the next seven days after you have recovered. If the seven days overrun the end of a pack, you should start a new pack immediately without having a seven day break. Women using this contraceptive for the first time may experience menstrual irregularities such as spotting, breakthrough bleeding or missed periods. Consult your doctor if any breakthrough bleeding persists. Your periods may become infrequent or stop after you stop taking this medicine.
If you do not have a withdrawal bleed during your pill-free week, you should do a pregnancy test or consult your doctor. Since this medicine should not be taken during pregnancy, it is important that you do not start your next pack until you are certain you are not pregnant. In the meantime, you should use a condom or a cap plus spermicide if you have sex.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the medicine at the next regularly scheduled time. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms may include decreased activity; goose bumps; loss of appetite; slow breathing; tearing; trouble walking; vomiting.
Storage
Store Diane-35 at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Diane-35 out of the reach of children and away from pets.
